The Hostel is located in Favela Chapéu Mangueira and Babilonia one of the first pacified favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Back in the days Favela Chapeu mangueira and Babilonia was controlled by street gangs, until it was taken over by
the police pacification unit project called 'UPP' in 2009 which has restored peace to the community and enhanced tourism.

Chapeu mangueira and Babilonia are now used as an example for other similar projects around the world as a success story.

Nowadays there is no safer place in Rio de janeiro than this small community called Chapeu mangueira, its like living in a small village where children play in the street and where everyone knows each other.
