Kiribati This tiny republic in the middle of the Pacific Ocean became independent just a few decades ago. Today it is a satellite tracking base, and a thriving resort. Especially the Chirstmas Island contains a rich birdlife and wild life sanctuaries where you can enjoy the peaceful nature. Like many other islands in this Ocean it has been invaded by the Japanese, and the historical sights still remain evident.
