The colonial centre has a Spanish based foundation but in the region there is a lot of much older history like the INCA-fortress pre-Inca holy places, even dinosaurs footprints in ToraTora can be seen. In contrast to the Inca history it is well worth paying a visit to the palace of the famous tin Baron Simon I Patio; Palacio de Potales built between 1915- 1925.

Not far away is La Cancha the biggest daily market in halls and on the street well stocked, good prices and mostly crowded.
